Holly McGarraugh, President and CEO
Holly has over 20 years of experience in medical devices. Most recently, she was the Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for in-vivo products at Abbott Diabetes Care and led the commercialization efforts, including clinical acceptance and reimbursement, of a new product category called continuous glucose monitoring. Prior to this, she was a vice president at the successful start-up, TheraSense (now Abbott Diabetes Care). She was an early member of Lifescan Inc. (a division of Johnson & Johnson) where she held multiple roles including the Director of Customer Service and Marketing, and Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. She holds an M.Ed. in medical education from Vanderbilt University and a BS in Dietetics from David Lipscomb University.
Bhairavi Parikh, PhD, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder
Bhairavi has deep domain expertise in the development of medical biosensors with numerous published articles and several issued patents. She has over 10 years of experience in the field of medical devices and diagnostics. She designed and developed a sensor for the measurement of therapeutic inhaled nitric oxide and led the instrumentation team for medical device clinical studies while at the University of Massachusetts Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Bhairavi was also involved in new product development at Natus Medical. Bhairavi has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from a joint program with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and University of Massachusetts Medical Center. She also earned an MS in Biological Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a BS in Biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire.
Nina Peled, Global Head and Vice President of Regulatory & Clinical Affairs
Nina has held executive management positions in the areas of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, as well as Quality Assurance, in a number of medical device companies including Hansen Medical, Lumenis, Amira Medical and Cygnus. Previously, Nina held various leading management positions in Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, Research and Development and Business Development at i-STAT Corporation and for 16 years at Boehringer Mannheim Corporation (Roche Diagnostics). Earlier in her career, she served as Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Rice University in Houston. Nina holds a BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in Physical Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an Executive MBA from the University of Houston.
Salvatore Romeo, Vice President of Sales
Sal has over 20 years of sales experience in medical devices. Prior to joining Apieron, Sal was responsible for Sales and Marketing with Jarvik Heart, where he managed commercialization of their Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) for heart failure. Previous positions included Vice President and General Manager of the Cardiovascular Division of ONUX Medical, and a sales management position with CardioThoracic Systems, which was launching a radical new technology for cardiac surgery. Sal began his career selling capital equipment for Puritan Bennett and subsequently held positions with Boston Scientific Corp. (Mansfield – SCIMED) and Johnson & Johnson (J&J Interventional Systems – Cordis). Sal received a BS in Chemistry with honors from Case Western Reserve University.
Brad Steadman, Vice President of Finance and Operations
Brad has over 25 years of experience in engineering, quality and operations management. His experience in the medical device industry ranges from wound care, respiratory management and dialysis, to neuro and cardiovascular implants. Brad has worked in a variety of companies, from start-up to Fortune 100, including Converge Medical, Somnus Medical, Wilshire Medical Products, Pfizer and Boston Scientific. He holds a BS degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Arizona and has completed advanced studies in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.
Jeff Thayer, Vice President of Research & Development
Jeff has over 25 years experience in technology innovation and
product development. The majority of Jeff's career has been spent transforming novel technologies into successful commercial products. His earliest work was in the invention and commercialization of Stereolithography. Jeff has held various Engineering management positions in analytical instrumentation, information systems, medical imaging and
consumer electronics ventures. Jeff's most recent experience prior to joining Apieron was with Alara, Inc., where he led the development team commercializing low cost, portable digital x-ray imaging systems. Jeff holds a BS in Physics from MIT and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
